Zach Hickmore, HCPC
Everything we do moves us either closer to, or further away, from our potential. Life is full of challenges, even more so when we want something that’s hard to get. I help people navigate these challenges by providing psychological support, developing mental skills such as resilience and emotional regulation and developing coping strategies for when life gets tough.
I am an expert in behaviour change and managing high-pressure environments across both sport and commercial environments. I have a proven track record of helping athletes and high performers achieve their goals and competing at the highest level to navigating change and recovering from serious injury. My previous experiences include working in the Premier League, professional tennis, rugby, golf, athletics, hockey as well as a wealth of experience in leadership development in commercial environments, where I work with senior leadership teams to develop their capabilities across a range of skills.
My belief is that our attention and ability to direct our attention towards what matters is a skill that can be developed far beyond what the majority of people do. Emotions, our bodies and our thoughts are all intertwined into the complexity that is every individual. Having a set of skills and a strong understanding of yourself and how you function in different situations can give you a massive advantage in life and in competition. My goal is to help people to help themselves and provide a space to develop these skills that is safe, non-judgmental and all about you moving towards what matters to you most.
I am an HCPC Practitioner Sport Psychologist. I completed my training through the Chartered Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences (CASES) and hold an MSc in Applied Sport Psychology, as well as additional qualifications in psychology, professional coaching, exercise science and project management.
Services
-
Tailored support for athletes to enhance performance and well-being. My services include individual consultations, goal setting, and mental training programs focusing on psychological skills, resilience, and performance strategies. I help athletes manage competitive pressure and improve focus, motivation, and confidence, while also addressing mental health issues like anxiety and stress recovery.
-
I work with coaches to embed psychological skills into their coaching environment. Alongside this, I consult with coaches on particular challenges they are facing with athletes or team dynamics and collaborate on finding solutions.
-
I have worked extensively with young athletes and their parents through the challenges of youth sport at various levels. These sessions are aimed at helping your child navigate the challenges they face, whilst we collaborate to ensure consistency and keep the bigger picture of their love and enjoyment of their sport in mind.
-
Unlock your potential through specialised sport psychology workshops. Designed for athletes, coaches, and executives alike, these workshops provide insights and techniques to enhance mental resilience, focus, and performance. I have worked in a wide range of sports including: football, rugby, hockey, cricket, fencing, tennis, swimming, waterpolo, athletics, endurance sports, Esports, bobsleigh, squash, motorsports, performing arts and many others. The principles of high performance, optimizing mindsets and developing athletic potential are similar across sports and the workplace and I love engaging in new environments and helping athletes and performers across domains.

Generally, Sport Psychology sessions are £85 per hour for individuals. I can often offer a reduced rate dependent on availability, a block booking discount or individual circumstances.
For groups and organisations this depends on the demands of the role. For executive coaching, contact me for pricing.

Knowing how many sessions are required will depend on the kind of support needed. Sometimes, a single session is enough to get a practical work-on and for some progress to be made, however I would at least suggest a follow up to ensure that positive change is actually taking place. Generally, I work with clients from 4 sessions and upwards to get the most out of our work together.

I offer consultations online and in-person. I am based in West Sussex and do travel to clients, however I charge a fee for travel when the distances are a bit further out. I find online sessions to be very effective and a more cost and time effective way to support clients nationally and internationally.

Yes (If the athlete is happy with it!). I find the best way for me to support athletes is through their coaches. If a coach can get the environment right, then 90% of my work is taken care of. Creating psychologically informed environments is an ideal scenario for a developing or elite level athlete to achieve their potential.
-
I love presenting. Presenting engaging workshops that are practical and educational is a great way to cover a variety of topics to a larger audience, get teams talking and break down barriers between individuals within groups. I am always happy to present from my own repertoire or to discuss your needs and create something unique!
-
A discovery call will help us pin down your needs initially before the first session. Each session will depend on these needs but generally last 50-60 minutes. Sessions with me are generally collaborative, giving you a safe space to think, develop your ideas and progress in your chosen areas. I am also happy to provide a curriculum of knowledge and skills to sessions on request.

Confidentiality is central to getting the most out of sessions and our ability to be open and honest. I believe this wholeheartedly and treat every bit of information shared with me as confidential unless we mutually agree sharing information might be beneficial to you.
